I’m finding ArcGIS.com to be very useful in cases where the Town needs to determine whether a trail is on public land or private land. In the past, personnel from our Conservation Department would send me GPX files collected from the field & I would have to go through a process of converting the data, then making a map with all of the appropriate layers. ArcGIS.com now includes the capability to upload a GPX file, which can be added to a map along with any other layers from available map services. Here’s an example of a nice interactive web-based map that I made in about 10 minutes. It’s of a trail (from the GPX file) with watershed land and private land displayed (from our map services): http://www.arcgis.com/apps/OnePane/basicviewer/index.html?webmap=5e184e06b1af4658ae5606de97458b51
